Preparing Our Children and Youth for School and Life Success

Research has proven that youth who don't participate in quality out-of-school time programs are three times more likely to use drugs, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes or engage in sexual activity. Given those statistics, United Way is taking steps to strengthen out-of-school time programming through its Quality Matters change strategy.

United Way recently announced the results of a five-month Quality Matters pilot project, involving 24 program sites, focused on improving the quality of out-of-school time programs while utilizing new techniques to engage children and youth.

Volunteers Step-Up to Help During
2010 Day of Caring

2010 DOC More than 3,000 volunteers took part in this year's 16th annual Day of Caring on Saturday, June 5. All the volunteers came with a desire to help and stepped up to clean, paint, landscape and make repairs as part of 165 different projects submitted by local nonprofit agencies from all across the Greater Kansas City area..

Many of the projects were things that the agencies desperately need done, but didn't have the money or manpower to get done without the help Day of Caring Volunteers. Read more...
